The guys who were behind the excellent technology of Skype, the much talked about VoIP software and the pioneering P2P sharing software, Kazaa, have reckoned again. This time with their Internet TV. They say, “TV, the way you want it”. Well its called Joost and its live now with its beta version 0.9.2 released on April 10th, 2007.
The magic of television, with the power of the internet built right in. Joost puts you in control, and TV will never be the same again. These guys had been onto this project for a year with the codename The Venice Project. Its simply the technology of tomorrow. They have developed an excellent technology for high-speed, high-definition broadcast of full length TV shows over the internet. All you have to do is install their client software which comes with a very nice interface and an amazing channel flipping. The program is based on P2PTV technology and is expected to deliver near-TV resolution images. It turns a PC into an instant on-demand TV without any need for additional set top box. You get great internet features too, such as search, chat and instant messaging, built right into the program - so you can find shows quickly and talk to your friends while you watch. And with no schedules to worry about, you can watch whatever you want, whenever you like - as often as you want. Joost is completely free, and works with most modern PCs and Intel Mac-based computers with a broadband connection(although the speed could be a limiting factor, but quality is excellent)

I can’t wait to lay my hands on joost. It really sounds promising. Only deterrant can be bandwith, but bsnl already gives 2 mbps and in near future we won’t be having insensibly small data caps. The ability to chat with friends while watching my favourite show does turn me on..in fact we friends often do it - discuss a football match over phone watching it at the same time. Now if talking and watching comes in the same platter, what can be better!
