The battle started by Gmail is still on. Come May, Yahoo Mail users will enjoy unlimited storage. It is interesting to note the old days when Yahoo started with 4 MB of mailbox space. Then came Gmail, with its stunning 1 GB offering prompting others to follow suit. As of now, Gmail offers 2.8 GB, Hotmail 1 GB, Windows Live Mail 2 GB, Lycos 3 GB and Yahoo 1 GB.

The transition from 1 GB to unlimited space will be phased out over a few months to avoid hassles. So will finally Yahoo lure away lost customer base from Gmail? Probably not. Gmail’s efficient anti-spam features are tough to beat. I will have to dig my head to remember when I had actually last accessed my Yahoo Mail account. It’s so full of spam!
