I recently had the chance of using the Nokia 3110 Classic - my sis bought it yesterday. It’s a new phone, released in Q2 2007. At an affordable price of INR 6800 this phone is really cheap considering it boasts of a 1.3 MP camera and a host of other features.
Camera
The camera is good enough. It has an 8x zoom. The night-mode was missing in the video recorder though. I tried taking my own pic by turning on the self-timer but the mirror meant for self-portraits was missing at the back which made it difficult.
Sound
The in-built loudspeaker sounded great to my ears as I surfed through FM radio channels. It’s sweet and doesn’t crack at full volume. A volume controller is present on the side. The sound, however, gets muffled when the phone lies flat as the speaker is on its back. The in-flight mode lets you listen to music anytime. The headset which is part of the package is a pleasure to hear as well. The built-in media player plays these formats - MP3/MP4/AAC/AAC+/H.264/WMA.
Web Browsing
Next, I loaded the phone browser. The EDGE connection allowed fast downloads. The browser is decent compared to other series 40 phones - but never a match for Opera Mini, of course. I could not key in the proxy settings in the ‘Access Point’ settings. There was no field at all to enter the proxy details under ‘Access Point’ though the field is present under ‘Web’ settings. Now my operator is Airtel and won’t connect without proxy. As a result I could not run Opera Mini or any other Java apps.
Software and Bundled Apps
The user interface is pretty fast. That even after adding a 1 GB memory card.
The phonebook stores 2000 contacts x 10 fields. You can assign user-specific tones as also contact photos. Group sms is supported - useful for bulk sending sms.
The phone bundles 2 games - Sudoku, Snowboard - and 3 apps - Yahoo Go!, Catalogs, Convert. Yahoo! Go knows what you like - the settings and content you selected in your Yahoo! account on your PC will automatically apply to your mobile experience—and vice-versa.
Memory
After downloading some music and themes the memory became almost full. The 8.5 MB of internal memory far too less compared to the other features of this phone. However, the memory is expandable upto 2 GB by means of microSD cards. Bluetooth support and USB port - that make transfers piece of cake - make it really a feature-rich phone.
Design and Ergonomics
Looks wise the phone is far from stunning. The screen area looks nice. But below the screen - that is the keyboard area - the finish looks cheap.
The feel of the keyboard is good. Keys are large and easy to use.
Others
The battery leaves up to Nokia standard and lasts real long.
Build quality is also good. The battery door has a rubber seal - meant to last longer. The USB port has a protection cover.

Best phone Nokia have ever made - at last they realise people have fingers that are bigger than most phone keypads will accomodate - I tend to press 4 or 5 down at once trying to press one key (especially Sony Ericsson)- great screen, great sounding music player large font capabilty - need I go on!!

Just bought one of these phones too. To add to the review, this phone is also blessed with one of the most responsive interfaces around. My old nokia n70 was a piece of shit - took ages to boot and even display a text message, to the point where I just left it at home rather than have it annoy me during the day…!
The 3110 classic is lightning fast, and while the features it offers are pretty basic, the speed and long life of the battery are making me love my mobile again!

Using a capacity of more than 512 mb cards in this phone, will cause the phone to slow down. Even though the phone supports upto 2gb it will be advisable to use lower capacity card to run the phone in full steam. Advice to novices…..do not play with the software of this model. It runs S40 and wrong commands can make the phone go horribly wrong.

But I am having trouble with gmail working on my phone Nokia 3110 Classic.
I have installed GMAIL APP successfully on my phone but when it signs in it say that it needs a data connection. I have settings/configurations installed for GPRS, WAP, MMS, and Internet on my phone from my service Provider(Telenor). Now the Gmail app says I need to chk my service provider to see if ther is any data connection available.
Is there a problem with my security settings or what?
I have allowed access to gmail for Multimedia, Communication, Data Access and etc etc. But still no luck.
Please guide.

It is one of the faiure model of nokia phones. I have purchased a new mobile of the above model, within a weak software getting corrupted, i had given to warranty to upadate software, within 2 days again problem started like phone hanging and restrating(While attending call itself phone get switch off automattically ) and sometimes swicth on also.
All the issues happen within two weeks and i requested to new mobile at warranty centre
I have seen the same faiuures above many user while at nokia care.
Please do not buy this above model

I was very happy too like others after purchasing the Nokia 3110 classic, but happiness didn’t last long. It has got some serious problems. I found out that there was a bug in the firmware/software. I couldn’t set the alarm for PM for items like reminder, notes etc, neither it allows to enter a time in 24 hour clock. One day I just tried the Reset Factory Settings option and guess what, it solved the alarm problem. It allowed to set AM or PM, but, the on/off button on the top stopped working immediately. When the battery ran out and the phone switched off, I am not able to switch on the phone even after charging the battery fully. Like many people mentioned the ringtone volume sucks too. Will not recommend to anyone.

i think dis is because d phone cant support heavy load wen the memory card is about 600mb and a load is put on phone like music library undater or we use internat or move data to d card it switches off.
do not over load d phone…

Nice review on Nokia 3110 here. Even though after reading this article I have a one question on Memory Card. Can I use the same memory card of Nokia 3110 to other competitors mobile or the same category of Nokia phones i.e. Nokia 3120 etc., Please, focuss on the Memory Card Issue concerning to its cost with respect to its memory size. What type of data I can stored by using the Memory Card?

I have the phone for the last 6 months & am using a 1GB card, the phone runs really fast even with the 1GB card, No problem with the batter life. Excellent Sound qty.,the only set back is clickin pics in the dark or at places where the Light is Dim, Otherwise excellent phone. Good value for Money.

I have installed Total Media converter on my PC & that’s free of cost from the net,through that I can convert any movie into 3GP format & download the complete movie in my phone using the USB connection provided on the cell.After conversion to 3GP the file size doesn’t go over 70-80MB,so I can store atleast 4-5 of my favourite movies on my cell as I am using a 1GB card. Total Media converter has all the required formats for conversion,it also has an option for conversion format specially for Nokia phones.Even with 5 movies & about 350 songs the cell works excellently without any hitch. The only drawback is while watching the movie the Rewind & Forward speed is very slow. Kindly advice if anybody uses a different software on this phone to watch movies.

sir help me that when i open yahoo mail or any other websites in my nokia 3110 classic the mobile shows error (access point not valid) or (no gateway for reply). when i call operator he told me that my mobile does not have a java application so how can i put java application in my mobile.
I bought the Nokia 3110 Classic phone 4 months before, but now i was not able to us ethe mobile as it is getting restarted by its own, i even updated the software, still this issue persists.

I’ve been using this phone for quite a long time now…
There r certain factors that do disappoint me. One is that this phone cant play any other format of video other than 3gp.
The camera is just ok, not good. I’ve also used LG KG200… It also has a 1.3 MP camera, but its result is better.. Also, when u zoom in when taking a picture, instead of moving in, the camera crops the picture to the desired area! This is visible when u transfer the images to ur computer.
The web browsing is also ok… It cant open most of the sites, including yahoo…. As for the applications, I cant say which one the author got, but in my package, there were 3 games. Canal control, Snake 3, and Sudoku… and 3 other, including, Catalogs, Sensor, and world clock…. the last one being of no use…
Apart from all that, I think the phone’s best feature is the looks… It’s been quite some time since we got to see a ’solid’ phone after 3310… This phone feels smart and is no doubt stylish.

I bought this Mobile Nokia 3110 on Aug 2007. i used 1MB external memory card. 3 months before i faced a problem on restarting.. my mobile remains restart, i cant able to speak to any one. After unplugged the memory card, its works fine(some times that time also restart). i reset and reset the software in Nokia Priority. After that it worked fine. form last week(02-May-2008) onward i am facing the same problem. now i put out my memory card. there is no security for Virus in this mobile. so i prefer dont buy this model.

its a good model.. not very stylish.. but ok.
a problem with this model is its software incompTIBILITY. SECONDLY, IF U USE MEMORY CARD OF 1 OR 2 GB, IT LL CREATE PROB IN OPERATION. it’ll start getting hang/switched off-switch on continuously.
third, if u r connection ur laptop to net through this phone, the same above mentioned prob occurs.

What brand of memory card will work in the Nokia 3110 Classic. It appears from the discussion that it is best to stay in the 512Mb or 1GB range. I see people reporting problems with SanDisk. Atish reported no problems and good performance with 1GB…but what brand/model of card. Don’t want to pay the extra $$ for a Nokia card if not necessary.
i bought this N3110 on october 2007, and i think this phone has meet with he price,, not very impresive but it still ok.. the performance and application are running pretty fast,,
so sure that this is very valuable for low budget
